Bonjour,
Welcome to M Summers French class. This unit was designed to assist intermediate through advanced learners in French Second Language (FSL) classes with verb conjugations. Keep in mind, that these lessons could be modified to suit any age group or competency level. Nonetheless, as some of the activities depend on the use of certain technologies (i.e. Facebook, video recording devices) and some face-to-face group activities, this verb conjugation unit is tailored for late middle school to late high school FSL, or perhaps French immersion, students in a blended learning environment.
When learning French as a second language, verb conjugating can seem like a daunting task. Many Anglophones forget, that we, too, conjugate verbs in our daily speech and written work, but because it is our natural language we do so seamlessly and effortlessly. Despite the similarities between the English and French languages, verb conjugation in French is generally more demanding because of its wider variety of rules and exceptions. To overcome these difficulties, this unit will demand that you partake in various individual and group activities that will demand you to collaborate with your fellow students and teacher. Using a variety of online websites and programs, you will be asked to express your knowledge and ideas about French verb conjugation so that we, as a group of learners, can build our knowledge together.
The unit is divided into three main activities/sections:
Section 1: What we know about verb conjugations
This section will ask students to communicate online about what they know already about verb conjugation. Posting your ideas and responding to your classmates’ posts is mandatory. Cick here for grading rules for this activity.
Section 2: Building upon what we know
This section asks students to conduct research and be able to become experts in various tenses of verb conjugations. You will work within a group to expand your knowledge about conjugating verbs in French correctly.
Section 3: Applying it to our lives
This section introduces a group activity that demands students to collaborate together to develop a French screen play. Dialogue is one of the most natural and authentic ways to apply verb conjugation. Once the screen play is written, your group will post your final product in the form of a video or audio file for others in the class to see and hear. Details of the assignment will be found in Section 3.
****Make sure before you get started, that you look at the different ways you and your group will be graded throughout this unit. Click here to find out more!
